White, E. (2006). Theory & practice: smaller companies join the outsourcing trend; fixed costs are expensive, oversight can be difficult, but move is often worth it. Wall Street Journal. (Eastern edition). New York, N.Y.: May 8, 2006. B.3.

As outsourcing become more cost effective smaller companies have started to take advantage. It has become part of the global market mindset of today’s businesses.

This topic is extremely relevant to the CLIC. If ROI cannot be proven, a company may choose to outsource the department, or phase it out as ‘out-dated’. A company may choose to outsource part of its CLIC; making the CLIC librarian a liaison between multiple information streams and the company.

The article was very short, so it was only able to highlight the positive side of the topic. I would like to see the downside of the argument. Ms. White also only discusses collaborative outsourcing, and I am interested in the effects on the business of whole-sale outsourcing of a company.
