IRLS 564: CLICS
Pre-Reading #7
Eat Cinema signs up Metro as sponsor. Marketing Week. London: July 13, 2006
Marketing Week reports that Eat Cinema has partnered up with Metro in film industry funded digital network. Eat Cinema is oriented towards mainstream audiences. Eat Cinema will provide movie news, previews, on-location specials and contests for winning tickets to premier events. The site will be highly interactive providing “video rich” services. Essentially, Eat Cinema is a variety of things. One it is an online, interactive film service. Two it is a promotional tool for the film industry. Three and most interestingly, it is a different type of presence for the film industry. This digital network may be the beginning of a new Hollywood trend. For now, the start up cost was provided by various studios but the network makes its profits from banner advertising. As services expand it is feasible that the sight may charge for downloading films or other programs.
This is of interest to film industry CLIC’s for many reasons. This network may provide services that many film CLIC’s already provide. So, Eat Cinema may represent competition for other film CLIC’s. At the same time, Eat Cinema may be a new client for film CLIC’s.
I would be interested in follow up articles on how Eat Cinema interacts with other film CLIC’s or if they have a library of their own.
