Welcome to Corporate Library and Information Center (CLIC) Management

My name is Roberta Shaffer. I am the Executive Director of FLICC/FEDLINK, a Library of Congress-sponsored consortium of federal library and information centers. Throughout its 40-year existence FLICC/FEDLINK has served as a major catalyst for federal libraries by providing library services, education/training, procurement, financial management, advocacy, advice, and consulting.

I will be teaching this 3-credit course (SIRLS 564-001; Summer 06) that will introduce you to principles of management in a corporate library and information center (CLIC). We will identify, discuss and compare how the corporate information setting differs from/is similar to other information settings like public, academic or school libraries. We will study CLIC best practices at leading corporations by looking at their planning processes, infrastructure, services, products, marketing, use of technology, and other key benchmarks. Finally, we will explore career opportunities and competencies for practice in this sector.

We will be meeting in Tucson, July 2-8, 2006, for six days of meetings (no class on the 4th!).

This is a condensed course with a great deal of work, including readings and assignments that must be done before the course starts. Please read through everything on the wiki carefully, so you are aware of all assignments and deadlines. This wiki will be a big part of our class. You will present all assignments on a student page you must create yourself. Presentation is one aspect of your grade. You do not need to know HTML to make a wiki page, but you will need to learn how to post information and format it effectively. Please go to the Student Pages so you can learn more about this wonderful new web tool.

For a tutorial on how to create a wiki, including how to create and edit pages within a wiki, read Creating Your First Wiki.
